Fully Automated Double-Sided PCB Coating Line Successfully Installed in India

As electronic assemblies become denser and more complex, particularly in automotive electronics, new energy, and telecom electronics, the demand for double-sided conformal coating is growing rapidly. Managing two-sided boards efficiently — without manual flipping between machines, excessive coating chains, or relying on labor-intensive manual flipping — is one of the biggest practical challenges in conformal coating production. For modern manufacturers, the inability to handle double-sided coating within a single automated line creates real bottlenecks: slower throughput, higher labor dependency, and inconsistent coating quality without integrated process automation.

To address this, Sanco recently partnered with a leading electronics manufacturing partner in India to deploy a fully automated double-sided coating line. The result was a high-capacity, single-line solution capable of handling both sides of a PCB without operator intervention — combining our Three-Axials Coating Machine, UV Curing Oven, PCB Flipper, and full conveyor automation into one seamless production line.

The Challenge of Traditional Double-Sided Coating

In traditional manufacturing environments, double-sided conformal coating is handled through one of a few approaches, either using multiple coating machines in sequence, manually flipping boards between coating stages, or relying on labor-intensive manual coating altogether. Each approach introduces the same fundamental issues: inconsistent coating results, increased handling risk, higher labor cost, and production bottlenecks that limit throughput.

Our customer in India was producing PCB assemblies at increasing volumes and needed to upgrade their existing process to handle double-sided coating without adding a second standalone coating line. Their specific requirements were:

  • Automated board loading and unloading — no manual handling
  • First-side coating followed by UV curing, then automatic board flipping
  • Second-side coating with UV inspection and second curing stage
  • Full SMEMA integration across all equipment modules
  • High capacity: target throughput to support full-capacity production without dedicated operators

Intelligent Automated Workflow In Detail

The efficiency of this system relies on the seamless integration of our core coating equipment with high-precision peripheral automation. Below is the step-by-step automated workflow of the double-sided coating line as installed.

The cycle begins with a Magazine Loader automatically feeding the boards onto the conveyor line.

Boards move through an Inspection Conveyor for pre-coating verification before entering the first Three-Axials Coating Machine for first-side coating.

After the first coating pass, boards enter the UV Curing Oven to cure the first-side coating material.

The Shuttle Conveyor transfers the board to the start of the line.

A PCB Flipper automatically rotates the board 180° for second-side processing.

The board then passes through the second Coating Machine and curing oven for the second side. A final inspection stage verifies coating quality before the completed board exits to a Magazine Unloader.
